The Real History of TriCity

Back in 1990, it was clear Seattle just wouldn't do.

Sure, we had the Seattle Sourcebook. But the city lacked life, and felt vague and nebulous. Then, for the next adventure, we were told we going to start over. Characters were going to be provided, and we would try something a little different.

Thus, TriCity was born.

Centered around our hometown of Fayetteville, Arkansas, TriCity combined the urban decay of 2050's Shadowrun with territory we all knew extremely well. During each game, the city expanded- a Corp here, a borough there, or a new twist on an old haunt- until TriCity had a detailed background and history of its own. As the material grew, the GM developed new ideas, adventures and plots, and started writing TriCity up in standard Shadowland format. Our games took us to Denver, Los Angles, New York, and across the Atlantic to Germany and the Carpathian Mountains.

TriCity became a cooperative effort between the players and GM, and we decided to take the material and write our own Sourcebook. The area history was reevaluated, modified, and edited. The environs of Arkansas began to take shape, and much of Arkansas was intentionally destroyed to help account for the massive population increase in the TriCity area. Corps gained subsidiaries and CEOs, and the effects of VITAS, racism, and the Awakening were considered. The city continued to grow.

Finally, it was decided that TriCity should be published on the Web.

As we got older, the games became less and less frequent as we began moving away from Fayetteville, and became more involved with other projects; namely, life. We still gathered occasionally to play Shadowrun over the summers, and the TriCity files remained tucked away on disk.

No longer.

We've had a great time collaborating on the TriCity project, and the games we've shared have been wonderful and memorable. We hope you enjoy the TriCity Shadowland Node, and we're all very proud of this work.
